A notorious outlaw, weary from his life of crime, stages a daring escape after a final, successful robbery. He finds temporary refuge in a remote, mountainous area where he assumes a new identity. His path crosses with a lonely woman and her young son, who live near a deserted toll gate. Through his interactions with them, he experiences a sense of peace and purpose he never knew, causing him to confront his violent past and consider the chance for redemption and a different future.
