The story traces the early life of Gabrielle Chanel before she became a famed fashion icon. Orphaned and raised in a convent, she later works as a seamstress and cabaret singer. Through her relationships with two wealthy men, she gains entry into a privileged world but remains an independent outsider. She begins to defy the extravagant norms of the time, developing the minimalist and revolutionary style that would eventually define her legacy.
