A starship crew arrives on the distant planet Altair IV to investigate the fate of a colony sent years earlier. They find only two survivors: a scientist and his daughter. The scientist warns them of a invisible, monstrous force that stalks the planet, a force that becomes increasingly hostile toward the new arrivals and is somehow connected to the secrets of a vanished ancient civilization.
