See the most agreed on films →This is a fantastical biography of the French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. The story traces his life from a shy Jewish boy in Nazi-occupied Paris to his rise as a national icon and notorious provocateur. His journey is depicted through his relationships with the women who inspired him and through the constant presence of a surreal, grotesque alter-ego that guides and challenges him. The narrative captures his artistic evolution, his battles with self-doubt and fame, and his relentless, often controversial, creative spirit.
