In a dystopian satire, a struggling European city scapegoats its Jewish population, blaming them for all economic and social ills. A law is passed expelling all Jews, and the city initially celebrates. However, the community soon discovers that its cultural and economic vitality has vanished with them. The city falls into decay and boredom, leading to a profound regret and a realization of the value of those they exiled.
