At the outbreak of the American Civil War, a young man from a border state is torn between his loyalty to his home and his personal beliefs. After much internal conflict, he makes the difficult decision to volunteer for the Union army. This choice puts him in direct opposition to his family and neighbors, who have joined the Confederate cause.
