A man awakens in a hotel bathtub with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He receives a phone call warning him he is in danger and must flee. He soon discovers he is the prime suspect in a series of gruesome murders. As he investigates, he realizes that the city itself is a shifting, artificial construct controlled by a group of pale, telekinetic beings called "The Strangers" who experiment with human memories and identities each night.
