An orphan raised in a Maine orphanage by a kind but unconventional doctor becomes his protégé, learning medicine and his unique moral code. Eager to see the world, he leaves the only home he's ever known and takes a job at an apple orchard. There, he encounters a new world of rules, responsibility, and love, which challenges everything he was taught.
